This was such a fun session with the added challenge of holding the attention of three young children! We planned to capture some classic black and white portraits to follow along with what had been done for the siblings of this sweet girl along with colorful baby portraits using hats. My number one goal was to get THE sibling shot early on in the session before anyone is ‘lost’. These three did so great though and while we got this more dramatic pose that I love, we also got some cute traditional ones of them sitting on the bed as well. I always try to start with the harder shots first and then we have more and more fun as the session progresses.
The time with the children during a session is my favorite part, but the next best part is following the ordering process…going back into the family’s home, helping to hang the portraits and being able to step back and enjoy all the effort (of EVERYONE) put into creating a beautiful finished product. You’ll see the ‘after’ shots below! Thank you to this wonderful family!

After  much careful planning and thought, we decided on this wall grouping for the master bedroom. For the nursery, we created a classic collage and then had some fun with the Organic Bloom frames to feature the baby’s portrait from her birth announcement! It makes me so happy when I know the family will enjoy their portraits every day.

I had the privilege of photographing the Lincoln Park Cooperative Preschool fundraiser event and having my portrait sessions featured in the silent auction!  This has allowed me the opportunity to meet wonderful families such as this family and their adorable children. The ages of the kids closely matches the ages of my son and daughter which made it an especially fun session. We started off in their home, capturing the siblings together first since this is one of the more challenging shots to get. They did so great!! Then after some fun portraits in the master bedroom and a clothing change, we headed out to Wicker Park near their home. Here are some highlights!

    Beautiful family!ReplyCancel

While I’m delayed in sharing these pictures from the fall, it’s a bit nice to look at the colors and remember what it was like when it was NOT winter in Chicago! I wish we could go back to this moment with these darling twin girls. I had the chance to photograph them when they were brand new and so it is so fun to see how they’ve grown into little people with such different personalities. During a family session with kids this age, we start with pictures of the siblings together while they are still acclimating to their surroundings and not moving around as much. Then we move into the family portraits, fun and formal, keeping things light and moving quickly. Once we capture these ‘gotta have’ shots, then we can all relax and continue to get more portraits of the family and children just being themselves. Family sessions like this are my absolute favorite to photograph. These are memories they will forever treasure. I will soon be sharing what these beautiful portraits will look like up on their wall.
