Adorable little Baby L certainly has brought warmth to a Chicago family during a crazy cold and snowy winter here. Oblivious to the conditions outside, he has all he needs indoors with his loving family. He was absolutely perfect for his portraits, sleeping soundly the whole time, allowing me to tuck him into this bucket for one set of pictures.
I love preparing for a newborn portrait session in a family’s home… seeing the awaiting baby nursery, and meeting the parents and siblings that eagerly anticipate the arrival. It’s fun to envision where the portraits will hang and to plan the colors to compliment home decor, the props, and clothing. It’s also important to talk through the flow of the session and how to prepare the baby for the session. One thing I like to emphasize to the family is that there is no ‘right’ way for the session to play out or for their newborn to act. Every baby is different and patience is the number one thing that I bring to every newborn session. The more patient and calm everyone is, the more likely the baby will sleep soundly, allowing us to get all the shots we’ve planned! I love the unexpected and embrace the challenge of photographing newborns. Getting to cuddle a tiny newbie every once in a while isn’t so bad either!!
