Lifestyle newborn and family sessions are becoming some of my favorite sessions! I often get asked what the difference is between the traditional newborn session and the lifestyle newborn session.
The main difference is that during this session, there is no formal posing of the baby on a beanbag and MORE of a focus on the family together and the emotion around welcoming your new family member. I do often still bring wraps to swaddle the baby and will pose him or her on the master bed, on a blanket, or in a basket. We will use the natural surroundings of your home for the majority of the session.
One of the aspects that my clients love the most about the lifestyle newborn session is that it is a more relaxed experience. You will not have the pressure of hoping your baby will sleep soundly for the formal posed portraits. Part of the beauty of this type of session is that anything your baby or family is doing in the moment, is worthy of documenting. You do not need to worry about posing the entire time or that your baby isn’t ‘cooperating’. The time you spend comforting your little one or feeding them will all be moments that you will love having captured. I will still photograph plenty of ‘portraits’ of your new little one, but they will be more naturally positioned, capturing your baby as you see them every day, sleeping and awake. I will also still take some more formal family and sibling portraits during our time together as well. This session also takes about half the amount of time!
Some of the moments that I love to capture during a lifestyle newborn session are:
gazing into the camera
looking at mom or dad
piled on the bed
looking at baby in awe
AND SO MUCH MORE!
